Update 3/6/2012 I own about 20 Transcend cards now. They have all worked without an issue untill today. I dread calling any company for return support because it usually is such a tortured experience...(Ever tried calling SanDisk for product support?) Withing 20 seconds of dialing I was connected to their representative Marc Crawford. He was able to quickly and clearly guide me to the support I needed. It was such a shockingly great experience that I wanted to pass it along to potential purchasers.

UPDATE 9-10 I own 4 of these cards now. I have more of these than any other card I own because they are a very good value for capacity/price/and speed. My initial disappointment over the lack of super high speed is outweighed by the reality that this card is an exceptional value.

If you own a compact digital camera, or SD/HD video camera, this card will exceed the capabilities of all of them. For compact cameras the card isn't... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast, fast, fast!, March 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I bought this card for my Canon T1i. The card I had been using before ordering this one was a Kingston Class 6 micro sd card and it worked well enough for the type of shooting I did. Class 6 was the card speed that Canon recommended when I bought my T1i (Class 10 cards were not yet available) and it seemed fast enough for the way I used my camera - isolated single photos taken at Medium (8 MP) or Large (15 MP) jpg settings and 1280 x 720 video. And while I ocassionally took continuous photos, I had never much exceeded 5-10 photos in a row and had never run into a problem with my Class 6 card.

When I first saw the Class 10 cards I did some experiments with my camera. How many continuous Large photos could I take before the camera slowed down? It turned out to be about 30. And how many RAW photos could I take before the camera slowed down? It turned out to be about 9. SInce I did not generally take any photos in RAW and never needed more than about 10 continuous photos at... Read more

I purchased this for use with my new Canon T2i. I use it primarily for shooting full resolution 1080p video, although I shoot stills as well.

The camera choked on the class 4 chip that I originally purchased, but with this one, it is amazing. I can shoot rapidfire 18 megapixel stills (I've tested it up to 30+ shots in a row), and there is no lag. I've never had an error when shooting hi-def video.

Highly recommended! I'm buying another one.

Transcend: Nine Steps to Living Well Forever

Product Description

In 2004, Ray Kurzweil and Terry Grossman, MD, published Fantastic Voyage: Live Long Enough to Live Forever. Their groundbreaking book marshaled thousands of scientific studies to make the case that new developments in medicine and technology will allow us to radically extend our life expectancies and slow down the aging process. Soon, our notion of what it means to be a 55-year-old will be as outdated as an eight-track tape player.

TRANSCEND: Nine Steps to Living Well Forever presents a practical, enjoyable program so that readers can live long enough (and remain healthy long enough) to take full advantage of the biotech and nanotech advances that have already begun and will be occurring at an accelerating pace during the years ahead. To help readers remember the nine key components of the program, Ray and Terry have arranged them into a mnemonic:

Talk with your doctor
Relaxation
Assessment
Nutrition
Supplementation
Calorie reduction
Exercise
New technologies
Detoxification

This easy-to-follow program will help readers transcend the boundaries of our genetic legacy and live long enough to live forever.

    if not forever.

I stressed over what grade to give Transcend and ultimately gave it an Amazon **** grade (say, B+). Why that high? Why only that high?

First, I'm an MD, PhD with 30 years of clinical practice
and 10 years of medical research. (Google bobblum.com or just "Bob Blum")
Ray Kurzweil was a classmate of mine at MIT in the sixties.
I just met Terry at the Foresight Convergence Conference in 2008.

I had read Fantastic Voyage, their first joint effort, several times and always had a hard time deciding whether to recommend it to friends and colleagues. 80% of Fantastic Voyage was first rate information. 20% was highly controversial, fringe medicine (alkaline water and obscure supplements).

I complained to Ray in a letter expressing concern about his personal health - 250 pills a day is just too many, portending too many interactions - and also to Terry. My advice was to please label or rate the scientific evidence... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book On Longevity With Real Practical Information, April 28, 2009

Note: I read an advanced uncorrected proof. My copy was not entirely finished - it was missing a lot of diagrams, and had some notes from the authors to the publishers. However, the content (actual text) was entirely done. See below for the review.

    *****

It's nice to see that while the authors of the book both have products and services that they sell in conjunction with the topics in the book, they barely mention those - there is no upselling like in a lot of other books. If you're worried about that, rest assured it is not an issue.

The first thing to note about this book is that in the first part, a lot of it is repetitive from "Fantastic Voyage". Where "Fantastic Voyage" was filled with technical detail and a thousands of scientific data points to back up the claims, this book does not have that level of thoroughness. However, in many instances that's no longer necessary; a lot of the data points from "Fantastic Voyage" have already been... Read more

This book is the more practical version of "Fantastic Voyage", the duo's previous work. Practical in that it provides specific recommendations for a wide array of activities that are all required to live well (exercise, eating right, vitamins and supplements, etc). When I say "practical", I mean they've dedicated many, many pages to things like how to strength train with resistance bands, and how to cook specific healthy food entrees. I would say it's not quite as detailed in the treatment of vitamins and supplements as the previous book, but more mainstream in that regard. And there are enough words around the "why" so you feel comfortable making the investments in time and money to implement the advice.

The book uses an interesting "talk from the future" technique which I found increased readability. Periodically a reader/author dialog is presented where the authors might answer the reader from a perspective that is 25 or 35 years in the future!

    I was a... Read more

That is, until a horrible accident tears them apart.

Sent to die in a sanatorium, Ien’s obsession for Kiera grows unbearable. I won this book from the Author, Christine Fonseca in her Transcend giveaway a few months ago and had been anxiously awaiting its arrival. When I saw the email from Christine yesterday afternoon I was almost giddy and started the Kindle version right away.

The Goodreads summary describes Transcend as:

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Artistry at its BEST!!, September 11, 2012
This review is from: Transcend (Kindle Edition)
Where do I begin? Or better still, how do I go about even trying to write a review for a book that is a masterpiece? It would be like trying to describe the feeling you would get standing under the glorious roof of the Sistine Chapel. There really are no words that would justify that. This is exactly how I am feeling now *takes deep breathe to calm my beating heart* I am floored. I am completely and utterly blown away and I really must say that this is pure artistry at it's best. Christine Fonseca is a brilliant writer, who has a poet's heart and an artist's soul. I am in love with her words that move me in more ways than one. Before I continue though, I really want to thank Christine for providing me with an ARC copy of Transcend in exchange for my honest review, and I am completely honoured to have been given this opportunity. As soon as I knew about this book I feverishly wanted it and low and behold, I was graced with it. Thank you.

Transcend really is a story filled... Read more

This review was originally published in Night Owl Reads

Disclaimer: I was provided with an ebook copy of this book for review as part of the virtual book tour. All opinions are my own and was never influenced by anything or anyone.

What a story! I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I decided that I want to read this. It is told in Ien's POV and all he could think about was Kiera and their future together. The accident really broke him, physically and emotionally, at some point during his recovery, he felt like he was losing his sanity too. All he wanted was to be with Kiera, far away from his parents who controlled his life.

Each chapter dwells in Ien's thoughts and his madness, wallowing in sorrow and defeat. When he finally got the chance, he flees from the sanatorium to seek revenge on those who have wronged him. He also wanted to find the love of his life, tell her he's alive and not dead as like what his mother has made everyone to believe,... Read more
