I saved all my pictures from my old computer and previous computers. Worked fine and transferred the pics I wanted well. I recently went to get an older picture from the drive, and it wouldn't read. I tried it on 3 computers, and none of them would recognize it. 6 months in a temperature controlled home office on a shelf, and now the drive is dead? Thank goodness I saved stuff to an external drive as a backup. Save yourself the risk and aggravation and get an external backup drive. I'm using it to back up some data files in various formats such as documents, PDF Files, and various video formats. So far it's been very dependable. The JetFlash comes with some software to assist in file transfer(s) and organization which I have not yet explored.I'm using it primarily with a Dell Lattitude C610, running Windows 2000. Windows immediately recognized the JetFlash, installed the necessary drivers, and it shows up appropriately in System Devices. The retractable metal piece is a nice feature. It proviedes a comforting 'click' sound to assure being completly open or closed. File transfer speed? I'm not a whiz at all this computer gadgetry, bus speeds, and the sort. I can only say I had a roughly 3,000 KB (3 MegaBytes, I presume) size file which wrote to the JetFlash in about a minute (using USB 2.0). Similarly, the JetFlash sent the same file back to my PC in approximately the same time...
