Transcend USB 3.0 Super Speed Multi-Card Reader for SD/SDHC/SDXC/MS/CF Cards (TS-RDF8) Reviews
This review is from: Transcend USB 3.0 Super Speed Multi-Card Reader for SD/SDHC/SDXC/MS/CF Cards (TS-RDF8) (Personal Computers)
I bought this reader for portability and I only use CF and SD mostly...
Few PLUSES: - It's tiny! (half the size of my Sandisk ImageMate Reader) - It has CF, SD, microSD (I use microSD least though) - LED blinks when you insert - sometimes have to wait about 5 seconds to detect. - works on both my Mac and PC - works on all my super old SD cards (non SDHC ones)
Tips / Few points to be aware of: - If you insert both microSD and SD side by side, it only read the first one that you insert. - So, do one at a time... I was just curious if it can read all 3 cards at the same time. - USB 3.0 is not supported by Mac (at least at the time of this writing)

I tested this with a sandisk extreme 16gb, 60MB/s card. used a 5.8 GB picture folder, with many jpeg and raw files in it. The computer is an i7 2600K. write speed to card burst at 55mb/sec, and sustains at around 45 mb/sec. Much more importantly, read speed off the card bursts at 95 mb/sec, and sustains above 70 MB/sec for the entire 5 gig. for comparison, my sandisk extreme usb card reader, peaks read at around 25 mb/sec from same card. so this thing is easily 3 times as fast. I tested the reading in to an SSD card to make sure the bottle neck is my memory card and not the write speed of hard drive. I also have no issues with this card hanging the computer up during boot.

With 300x UDMA CF cards, I get around 43 MB/s, where as over USB 2, I get 25 MB/s with the same cards. I haven't tried any other cards or USB3 card readers.
As a side note, it can't be connected when booting, or it loops through the boot screens. I hear this is a motherboard chipset issue that occurs with many devices though.
